Jailed Joliet Janitor For District 86's Grade Schools Needs To Be Fired After All: Administration

JOLIET, IL — Will County Jail inmate Jeremy Ledesma was brought over to the Will County Courthouse on Tuesday morning, but his Illinois SAFE-T-Act pretrial detention hearing did not take place, after all.

Joliet lawyer Daniel Walsh informed the judge that he was serving as standby counsel because Ledesma's defense attorney, Kristine Honiotes, could not make it. As a result, the judge delayed the pretrial detention hearing until Thursday morning. For now, Ledesma will remain in the Will County Jail where he's facing three counts of child pornography, following a lengthy Will County Sheriff's Office investigation that lasted most of last year.

After Joliet Patch produced four successive stories breaking the news of Ledesma's charges and his employment as the janitor at Eisenhower Academy Elementary School, the Joliet District 86 administration and school board has decided to reverse course. On Tuesday, District 86 made a last-minute change to the Wednesday night school board agenda.

Now, there is a resolution for the school board to vote on, calling for "terminating the employment of Jeremy Ledesma."

In addition to cleaning the building at Eisenhower, the District 86 acknowledged over the weekend that Ledesma also had janitorial duties at Keith School.
