What led to Friday's arrest of Davis?

Joliet police spokesman Tizoc Landeros said there were a series of crimes that happened in August.

On Aug. 9, Joliet officers were flagged down in the 1400 block of Clara Avenue by a 54-year-old woman from Joliet. Her gray Jeep had been stolen. The victim explained that she was attending a party in the area and believed she had dropped her car keys. She told police was later informed by people at the party that a person, later identified as Davis, had stolen her vehicle.

At around 4 a.m. Aug. 11, police said officers located the stolen Jeep in a downtown Joliet parking deck. As officers approached the vehicle, they recognized the driver as Davis. According to Landeros, Davis began to drive off in the Jeep; however, his path was blocked by a parked car. Officers opened the driver’s door as Davis put the Jeep in reverse, pushing the officers backward into one another. Officers gave several commands for Davis to place the vehicle in park and stop, but he fled the area and was not immediately located, police said.

Later that same day, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Crest Hill officers found the stolen Jeep in the 1800 block of Wilcox Avenue.

On Aug. 23, officers obtained a Will County arrest warrant for Davis.

At 2 p.m. Oct. 17, Joliet police officers encountered Davis in the 1700 block of McDonough Street and Landeros said when Davis spotted the officers, he tried to run.

Officers pursued Davis and were able to apprehend him after a brief chase. During the arrest, Davis pushed the officers’ arms in an attempt to resist and broke several pieces of an officer’s equipment, police said. He was subsequently taken into custody, according to Landeros.

Davis told officers that he was having difficulty breathing due to the struggle, police said. Joliet Fire Department paramedics were called and Davis was taken to the hospital for evaluation. During a search, officers located several pills on Davis for which he did not have a prescription, the arrest report showed.
