Joliet Fire Department Reveals 1st Space Heater Fire Of Fall Season
Upon investigation, the crew found smoke and fire on the first floor of a single-family residence.

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Fire Department issued a press release over the weekend alerting residents that a portable space heater caused a fire that damaged a house in the 1200 block of Schriber Avenue.
According to the fire department, at 1:55 p.m. on Saturday, The Joliet Fire Department responded to the 1200 block of Schriber for a structure fire with smoke inside a residence and flames showing.
The first units arrived within four minutes of the call, and the crews found smoke and fire on the first floor of a single-family residence. The residents evacuated the home prior to the Joliet Fire Department's arrival.

Responding crews were able to bring the fire under control within 18 minutes.
Occupants of the home stated that they saw fire from a room where a space heater was in use, the fire department noted.

"As temperatures drop, the Joliet Fire Department would like to remind the public regarding the safe use of portable space heaters," the agency announced.
Fire crews from Joliet Fire Stations 1, 5, 6, and 8 were on scene. The fire is currently under investigation.
