Joliet Gunman Captured At Home Cut Donuts After Neighborhood Shooting: English
Residents heard a gunshot and saw a man driving from the scene while yelling toward a nearby residence, Joliet police revealed.

JOLIET, IL — A 47-year-old man who comes from Morris, Andrew Planeta, is now housed in the Will County Jail following Tuesday night's shooting in a west-side Joliet neighborhood that resulted in his capture several minutes later at the Home Cut Donuts where he was a customer.
According to Sgt. Dwayne English's press release, at 9:01 p.m., Joliet police officers responded to the 100 block of Margaret Street for a man firing a handgun from a vehicle. The officers located a spent shell casing in the street.
Residents heard a single gunshot and saw the man driving from the scene in a vehicle while yelling toward a nearby house. Officers identified Planeta as their suspect and obtained a description of the vehicle and its registration information.

No injuries were reported, English pointed out.
Approximately 10 minutes later, the officers spotted the suspect vehicle unoccupied and running in the parking lot of Home Cut Donuts at 815 West Jefferson Street. The handgun was on the passenger seat inside of the vehicle. Planeta was placed into custody without incident by the officers after he exited the business.

However, the officers determined that Planeta appeared to be impaired by alcohol, English pointed out. The loaded handgun was recovered from Planeta’s vehicle and was reported stolen from Warrenville. Planeta had a revoked driver’s license and multiple prior DUI convictions across several counties.
Joliet police announced that Planeta is charged with being an armed habitual criminal, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, reckless discharge of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, unlawful possession of firearms and firearms ammunition, use of a stolen firearm, having No FOID, four counts of aggravated DUI and DUI.
