Joliet Man Shoots Car During Argument Over Cellphone: Police

An argument over a cellphone turned violent when the accused man shot the victim's car, police say.

JOLIET, IL — A Joliet man was arrested Sunday after shooting at a victim's car over a cellphone, according to the Joliet Police Department. Armand D'Antignac, 30, was jailed on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

On Sunday, around 5 a.m., police responded to the Joliet Police Station to a victim who claimed D'Antignac shot at her car. Police discovered that the victim had D'Antignac's cellphone as a result of an argument they had Saturday night.

The two agreed to meet at the Joliet Police Department to exchange the phone, police say, but the victim didn't show up, according to the department's Facebook post on the incident.

D'Antignac, of Joliet, went looking for the victim, police say, and found her driving in her car near Jefferson and Scott streets. He cut her off with his car to stop her and demanded his phone back, police say. The two began to argue.

That's when D'Antignac is accused of pulling out a gun and shooting a round into the victim's tire, believing the car was going to hit him, police say.

The victim then threw the phone out the window and drove to the police station to report the incident.

An officer found D'Antignac soon after near Jackson and Collins streets. He was taken into custody without incident.

Police found a spent shell casing near Jefferson and Scott and found the handgun, according to their post.
