Joliet Mom Overcame Obstacles With Determination, Smiles

JOLIET, IL— Moms do so much for everyone around them. We try to celebrate them all year long, but Mother's Day is a perfect opportunity to shout it from the rooftops and post it on Patch: Mom rocks!

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize the awesome moms and mom figures in communities like yours.

What makes your mom extra special?

My momma has been through everything in the book, but while everyone doubted her, she fought through and came out on top. She and I went through rock bottom, but with her on my side, making each other laugh and smile, we overcame everything that was thrown at her. She had days of breaking down but she knew she had to do it for her. I stepped up as her daughter and kept her head up high.

Why do you feel your mom deserves the spotlight?

She’s been through rock bottom but somehow she still has a big smile on her face. She taught me that no matter what, we still win at the end of the day. She definitely deserves a win but her being my mom is a win.
