Joliet Roadside Checkpoints Are In Place For The Holidays

The Joliet Police Department has announced various roadside checkpoints will be set up around the city now through November 26.
Joliet Police, in partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation, will enforce the checkpoints in an effort to increase seatbelt usage and crack down on drunk driving and speeding, particularly leading up to Thanksgiving. With Thanksgiving being one of the busiest travel days, there is the potential for more accidents and fatalities.
“So many family tragedies can be easily avoided by wearing seatbelts, having a designated driver, getting a ride, or by calling for a taxi or ride-sharing service,” said Chief Al Roechner.

Assigned officers will be checking for all violations of the Illinois Vehicle Code including: occupant restraint violations, child restraint violations, DUI violations, speeding violations and more.
The roadside safety checkpoints campaign is possible through a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation. The campaign efforts will help to prevent drunk driving, increase seatbelt/child restraint usage, and reduce speeding around the Thanksgiving holiday.
