Joliet Stabbing: Potential Suspect Captured At Bicentennial Park, Later Released

A person of interest who was taken into custody has been released, Joliet police revealed, and said no charges have been filed.

JOLIET, IL — Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English issued an updated press release in regard to Tuesday morning's stabbing on the near west side, not far from the Des Plaines River, that left a 44-year-old man in St. Joe's hospital with serious injuries.

According to English's account, at 9:04 a.m., officers responded to the area near Bluff Street and West Marion Street for a stabbing. The officers found a 44-year-old man with multiple stab wounds to his body.

Officers immediately rendered medical aid until the arrival of paramedics. The victim was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department's ambulance in serious condition.

"It is believed the victim’s injuries are non-life-threatening," English said late Tuesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, police said a man was spotted in the vicinity at the time of the stabbing. English said the officers found the 30-year-old man nearby in Bicentennial Park at 201 W. Jefferson St.

That man was detained and was transported to the Joliet Police Department for further questioning by detectives.

"At this time, no charges have been filed, and this case remains under investigation," English revealed.

English told Joliet Patch that the initial person of interest has been released from custody by detectives.
