JOLIET, IL — A 17-year-old boy who was shot by Joliet Police last week has been taken to the River Valley Justice Center after he was charged with home invasion, residential burglary, and aggravated battery, the department said on Tuesday.

The teen was shot by a Joliet Police officerin the arm around 8:40 a.m. on Dec. 13 after he was arrested at a home in the 1100 block of North Center Street that he had entered with a handgun, police said. Police said the man was shot by officers after he refused to drop the gun after being told to several times by police.

Police had responded to the residence after receiving numerous 911 calls about a man outside of the home pointing a gun at the residence, police said last week.

While the officers were on their way, police said the suspect forced himself into the house by breaking a window to the back door, police said. Police said they recovered the weapon at the scene.

Following the confrontation with the officer, it was determined that the juvenile possessed a BB handgun at the time of the incident, police said on Tuesday. The teen was taken to Ascension St. Joseph Hospital in stable condition and released on Friday at which time he was transported to the Joliet Police Department, processed, and then taken to the River Valley Justice Center, police said.
