Joliet's Newest Subdivision Underway: 'Homes From The Upper $300,000s'

JOLIET, IL — Eleven months after Joliet Patch first broke the news regarding plans to build a large subdivision on the far western edge of Joliet, the new Vista Ridge subdivision along Caton Farm Road is starting to come to life.

Construction of the model home, which is shown above, is underway and the main roads leading into the new subdivision are completed. Joliet Patch visited the subdivision last week to bring you this update. In January, Joliet's Director of Community Development Dustin Anderson informed the Joliet City Council that the new homes would range between 1,400 and 2,571 square feet in size and feature two or three bathrooms and three to five bedrooms per unit. Lots within the R-2 zoned area would be a minimum of 7,500 square feet in size, with an average lot size of 8,713 square feet.

According to Anderson, the Vista Ridge Subdivision encompasses 120 acres and will contain 397 dwelling units at full build out. The property was annexed into Joliet and zoned to single family residential and low-density multi-family residential way back in 2004.

What's interesting to note is that the website for the home builder Ryan Homes wants prospective buyers to believe the development is "Plainfield" even though the new entrance sign along Caton Farm Road reads "Vista Ridge Joliet."

It might be time for Ryan Homes to update their website. It's been a year since Joliet Patch and other news outlets reported that the Lion Electric facility, located in Joliet near Route 6 and Youngs Road, closed after the electric bus manufacturing company based in Quebec collapsed and shuttered its Joliet facility. There are still lots of major employees throughout the Joliet region, but Lion Electric is not one of them.
