Judge Refuses to Grant New Trial for Woman Sentenced in Joliet Apartment Slaying

Speed is scheduled to be sentenced on August 7th.

JOLIET, IL - A Joliet woman convicted of first-degree murder for allegedly slaying her roommate will be sentenced next month.

Will County Judge Daniel Rozak heard statements and testimony on Monday July 18th from the family of Shaleatha M. Green and from Kadiedra S. Speed's friends and relatives.

In August 2014, Speed had been living in at her Eastern Avenue apartment until she was told by Green that she needed to find someplace else to live, police said.

Speed continued to kick in a window and then butchered Green, police said.

Speed, 22, could face up to 60 years in prison when she is sentenced by Judge Rozak on August 3.
