Just Kidding - Joliet Woman Said She Pulled Pellet Gun on Pal as Prank: Police

She was just joking around, the woman reportedly told police.

JOLIET, IL — A Joliet woman explained that she was just joking around when she pulled a pellet gun on a pal and demanded all her money, police said.

Candace Callis, 47, still ended up in jail Wednesday night, but instead of facing a robbery case, prosecutors decided to charge her only with misdemeanor aggravated assault.

Callis found herself in trouble with the law after county deputies were sent to the corner of Second and Schorie avenues about 6:15 p.m. to look into a report of a woman clad in dark clothing who was “walking down the street with a gun.”

When they arrived, the deputies spoke with a woman who said she was sitting in her parked car when she found herself looking through a side window and down the barrel of a gun.

The woman brandishing the gun reportedly demanded money and, when she was refused, walked off.

Deputies tracked Callis down to Ingalls Food and Liquor on East Washington Street.

“Several pellets were found on Callis’ person and a canvass of the area inside the store led deputies to locate a pellet gun,” police said.

Callis was booked into the county jail on attempted aggravated robbery but the next morning was charged only with the misdemeanor.

According to police, Callis was able to identify the other woman by name, insisted she “was her friend and said that she was just joking around with her.”

Callis remained in custody Thursday morning.
