Kicked Out Houseguest to Stand Trial For Allegedly Murdering Former Host

The trial is set to start Tuesday.

JOLIET, IL — A Joliet woman charged with killing a friend after she kicked her out of her home will go on trial Tuesday.

Kadiedra Speed, 22, waived her right to a jury trial Monday and left her fate in the hands of Will County Judge Daniel Rozak.

Speed had been living in the Eastern Avenue apartment of Sharleatha Green until one morning in August 2014 when Green told her she needed to find someplace else to live, police said.

Speed departed, police said, but returned that afternoon and found the locks had been changed.

That’s when Speed kicked in a window and butchered Green, police said.

Officers called to the residence reportedly found Green crumpled on the living room floor. Police said “several witnesses” were still at the apartment when officers arrived.

Green was taken to Presence St. Joseph Medical Center where she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival. Speed was arrested that night.

At the time of her arrest, Speed was with a man who had also been at the apartment, police said, but he was not charged in connection with the killing.
