More Than 600 Homes in Joliet Without Power: ComEd

A tornado reportedly touched down and damaged homes near Coal City during the powerful storms on Sunday.

ComEd reports than more than 650 homes in Joliet, and less than 200 homes in and around Channahon, Minooka and Shorewood were left without power in the wake of powerful thunderstorms on Sunday.

Several Chicago suburban communities reported tornadoes generated from the storms that swept across much of north-central Illinois, according to the National Weather Service.

The Coal City area to the south was harder hit. A tornado reportedly touched down there, according to the Morris Daily Herald. ComEd crews are investigating thousand of homes there.

About 160 homes north of Bluff Road in Channahon were reported without power, according to ComEd. Crews were being scheduled to assess the damage. Scattered other outages were reported southwest of Channahon and west of Shorewood.
