JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department announced the arrest of 23-year-old resident Corey Cloos this week at the Red Roof Inn on McDonough Street in connection with allegations he endangered the life and safety of his 1-year-old child.

The police arrested Cloos and gave him a notice to appear in Will County court on charges of child endangerment, two counts of aggravated battery to a police officer and two counts of resisting the arrest.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 1:49 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to Red Roof Inn at 1750 McDonough St. for an intoxicated man with a small child.

Officers located Cloos near the front office, and he appeared heavily intoxicated, English said.

Witnesses reported that Cloos had been passed out in the grass near the parking lot while caring for his 1-year-old son. Surveillance footage showed Cloos falling while carrying the child, who then wandered alone into the parking lot as Cloos remained unconscious for several minutes, Joliet police said.

When officers arrived, the child was with an uninvolved female witness, police said.

Officers escorted Cloos and his son back to their hotel room, where Cloos became belligerent and was taken into custody, the agency said.

While being escorted out, police say Cloos resisted by bracing against the wall and wrapping his legs around officers. He again resisted while being placed in a squad car, kicking an officer and later striking his head while attempting to exit the vehicle headfirst, according to the arrest logs.

The child’s mother was contacted and responded to the scene to assume care. Officers notified the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. After processing, Cloos was taken by ambulance to the St. Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department due to his intoxication, Joliet police explained.
