JOLIET, IL — Several Plainfield and Shorewood area schools were put on a short security lockdown Tuesday morning as Joliet police assisted the U.S. Federal Marshals who were in the area to capture a fugitive out of Chicago.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said it's his understanding the fugitive was being sought for crimes in Chicago. He said the federal marshals showed up at a house in the 1900 block of Hampton Court around 10:30 a.m. and that's when the fugitive ran into the neighborhood.

The incident prompted authorities to issue a short lockdown that lasted 15 to 20 minutes, English said.
