JOLIET, IL — For the past four years, Joliet area residents drove past the empty Long John Silver restaurant on West Jefferson Street and they could not step inside to order fried fish, shrimp or hush puppies. On Tuesday morning, the vacant Long John Silver had its date with Gould Brothers Demolition and the Gould Brothers prevailed, smashing and destroying the Long John Silver building into pieces.

If you're sad to see the empty Long John Silver gone, don't be. That's because there will be a new 7 Brew Coffee Shop, a drive-thru only coffee place, that will be built this summer in its place. 7 Brew hopes to bring more competition to West Jefferson Street which is home to not just one but two Starbucks coffee shops. The latest Starbucks opened on Memorial Day weekend at the site of the former Bakers Square pie and dessert restaurant.
