JOLIET, IL — A 24-year-old man was found with several gunshot wounds, including one to the head, while a second man, 46, drove himself to a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds to his legs on Thursday before crashing his vehicle, Joliet police said.

Police responded to Pilcher Park, 2501 Highland Park Drive, at about 1 p.m. after receiving a report of people arguing and a person being shot in the head.

They found the 24-year-old Joliet man, who was conscious and breathing. Police said when a Joliet Fire Department crew moved him to be taken to Silver Cross Hospital, a handgun was found near him.

Once the 24-year-old was in stable condition, police said he was airlifted to University of Chicago Hospital.

Detectives on the scene determined that a dark-colored sedan had left Pilcher Park after the shooting. As officers searched for the vehicle, Joliet Police Dispatch was contacted by the Will County 911 Communications Center, and learned a dark-colored sedan had arrived at Silver Cross and crashed into a security vehicle.

The driver of that car, believed to be the same one seen leaving Pilcher Park, appeared to have a gunshot wound. Police said several guns were recovered from the vehicle, and the driver, a 46-year-old Joliet man, was treated for multiple gunshot wounds to his legs. He is also in stable condition.

"This is an isolated incident to the parties involved and there is no threat to the community," police said in a news release. "All the individuals involved have been accounted for and there is no one outstanding."

Joliet police are working with the Will County Sheriff's Office on any possible charges related to the shooting.
