Man Fires Gun in Air After Threatening to Kill Girlfriend: Cops

The man pointed the handgun at his girlfriend when he threatened to kill her, police said.

A Lockport man fired a handgun in the air after pointing it at his girlfriend and threatening to kill her, police said.

Carl Werner, 65, was arrested in connection with the Sunday night incident and jailed on charges of aggravated assault, the reckless discharge of a firearm and domestic battery.

County deputies were sent to Werner’s Hughes Avenue home about 9:30 p.m. to investigate a report of a man with a gun.

“Upon arrival they spoke with a female victim who alleged that she was in a verbal argument with her boyfriend when he grabbed her arm and then left the room, returning with a handgun,” police said.

The boyfriend — Werner — “pointed the gun at her and threatened to kill her,” police said. “Werner then walked outside and fired the handgun into the air.”
