Garcia was charged with battering Gonzalez just two months ago. During his appearance in bond court, he was forbidden to come within 1,000 feet of her or their home.
The authorities are keeping the cause and manner of Gonzalez’s death under wraps pending the results of an autopsy scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Crest Hill police conducting a welfare check reportedly went to the Marlboro Lane residence Tuesday night. No one answered the door, a source said, and officers gained entry after someone with a key arrived to let them inside.
Gonzalez was already dead, a source said, and Garcia was in a “drug-induced stupor.” He allegedly confessed to killing Gonzalez.
