Mercedes-Benz Driver Kept Cocaine In His Pocket: Joliet Police

Officers discovered open containers of alcohol in the vehicle, Joliet police revealed.

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department said 39-year-old resident Adan Tapia Patino was arrested over the weekend and released on a notice to appear in court in connection with felony drunken driving charges as well as cocaine possession.

Police spokesman Dwayne English said that Tapia was arrested on crimes of aggravated DUI, DUI, DUI – BAC over 0.08 and possession of a controlled substance.

According to English, at 2:26 a.m. on Saturday, the officers conducted a traffic stop on a Mercedes-Benz ML550 near East Jackson Street and State Street for a registration violation. While speaking to Tapia Patino, English said the officers noted he showed signs of possible alcohol impairment. Tapia Patino performed field sobriety tests and was then placed into custody without incident.

Upon searching Tapia Patino, the officers recovered suspected cocaine from his pocket, the arrest report said.
