Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra Auditions for the 2025-2026 Season

MYSO currently has openings in all sections of the orchestra, including violin, viola, cello, bass, harp, oboe, flute, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba and percussion. Players seeking to join the orchestra should prepare and submit the audition excerpts found at www.mysomusic.org. The orchestra is open to high school students, as well as advanced middle school instrumentalists who study with a private teacher. Lewis University and Joliet Junior College students can enroll in the orchestra for course credit.

The 2025-2026 season marks the orchestra’s 67th Season. Originally founded in 1959 by Mary K. Rosen, the orchestra has grown from a mere 14 music students to now 60 musicians. MYSO is under the direction of Maestro Peter Lipari, Plainfield resident and Joliet Township High School Orchestra Director.

MYSO welcomes young musicians to explore and develop their talents through musical expression. Together, we foster a life-long love of music for our performers and the diverse communities in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. Membership in MYSO consists of teen-aged youth musicians from over 21 communities surrounding the Joliet area, as well as students from Lewis University and Joliet Junior College.

MYSO rehearses every Wednesday evening during the school year from 6:15 to 8:45 p.m.

at Lewis University. The orchestra will perform up to six concerts during the upcoming season. Concerts are held at Lewis University, Joliet Junior College, and Joliet Bicentennial Park.
