Motel Manager Investigating Stench Found Badly Decomposed Body

The body was in an advanced stage of decomposition, police said.

The manager of a Wilmington motel found a badly decomposed body after guests and staff noticed a “strong odor” coming from one of the rooms, police said.

“At this time police do not suspect any type of foul play in the death, and upon initial investigation found no signs of any illegal activity in the room,” Wilmington Police Chief Phillip Arnold said in a press release.

The manager of the Van Duyne Motel on Bridge Street opened up the room Monday and found a body in an “advanced stage of decomposition,” police said.

The Wilmington police investigated the scene and the Will County Coroner’s office removed the body.

The coroner’s office “will conduct a forensic postmortem investigation in order to determine the exact cause of death,” police said. “The identity is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of the next of kin.”
