Motorcyclist Stabs Victim Twice At Old Joliet Prison: Police

According to witnesses, Joliet police say a fight ensued, which resulted in the victim being stabbed.

JOLIET — The Joliet Police Department said someone was stabbed Sunday afternoon at the Old Joliet Prison, and that the dispute happened because of a road rage incident involving various motorcycle riders leaving the prison during a car show.

According to Joliet Police Investigations Sgt. Tizoc Landeros, the victim suffered two stab wounds, one to the bicep and the other to the lower back.

Both wounds are non-life threatening.

According to Sgt. Landeros, James R. Reed, 44, of Joliet, was arrested and later released after being given his notice to appear in court on aggravated battery charges.

At 4:34 p.m., officers were at the Old Joliet Prison, 1125 Collins St., conducting security for a car show. The officers were advised by police radio that someone was stabbed in the parking lot. Officers met with a Will County Sheriff's deputy, who was speaking with Reed.

Reed told the officers that he stabbed someone nearby, according to Landeros. Reed did not provide further information.

Officers found the stabbing victim and more eyewitnesses. The officers were told that there was a road rage incident while leaving the parking lot of the Old Joliet Prison involving two motorcycle riders and the victim’s vehicle.

One of the motorcycle riders, later identified as Reed, approached the victim and an argument started, Landeros said. According to witnesses, a fight ensued, which resulted in the victim being stabbed.

Meanwhile, Reed told Joliet officers that he was having pain in his jaw and was taken to Ascension St. Joseph Hospital. Reed was treated and released.
