JOLIET, IL — Joliet's zoning board will meet next week to discuss plans to allow Ascension St. Joe's hospital to erect a new wall sign along Glenwood Avenue, a sign that will be 57 feet off the ground. The proposed sign will proclaim, "Jay & Lori Bergman Heart Hospital."

Ascension needs Joliet to approve a variance, increasing the maximum sign height from 20 feet to 57 feet to accommodate Ascension's request.

"This property is a sprawling hospital campus with many departments spread over multiple wings. The buildings are all multi-stories tall pushing the signable area to the top of the facade," city of Joliet reports reflect. "The granting of this variance would have only positive impacts on the essential character of the area. The exterior signage will assist with navigating the hospital grounds ... and will honor the memory and life's work of Lori Bergman, who was a dedicated philanthropist in the community."
