Obituary: Nita Kay Valdez
A longtime Joliet resident and Plainfield School District 202 custodian passed away at 75.

Nita Kay Valdez, 75, passed away on February 29, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas. Valdez lived in Joliet, Illinois, for over 40 years, working as a head custodian in the Plainfield School District until 2010.
She was born on May 16, 1948 in Brownfield, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents Leon H. Vasquez and Eloise Vargas Vasquez; her husband Cornelio Valdez; and her sisters Shelia Vasquez, Connie Garcia and Nora Casillas.
She is survived by her children Cornelio Valdez, Jr. of Brownsville, Texas; Patricia Kay Valdez and her wife Jennifer Lindstrom of Crest Hill, Illinois; and Vickie Kay Valdez of Portland, Oregon. She will be remembered by her grandchildren Justin Lee Valdez, Harlingen Texas; Ethan James Valdez, Harlingen, Texas; Jessie Elizondo, Tokyo, Japan; Amber Nicole Elizondo, San Antonio, Texas; and step-grandchildren Melanie Laney Vega, Joliet, Illinois; and Payton, Gwen and Carson Olech of Crest Hill, Illinois. She also has surviving siblings: Leandro Vasquez of Lubbock, Texas; Alfred Vasquez of Lubbock, Texas; Juan Manuel Vasquez of Spur, Texas; and Leonard Patrick Vasquez of Lubbock, Texas; and her sisters Guadalupe Eloise Romero of Lubbock, Texas; Irma Sanchez of Spur, Texas; Margie Francis Valerio of Spur, Texas; and Olivia Denise Islas of Lubbock, Texas.

A committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Plainfield Township Cemetery, 15502 Joliet Road, Plainfield, IL 60544.
