Person Killed After Being Struck By Freight Trains In Joliet: FD
The person was reportedly struck by an oncoming freight train at Eastern Avenue near East Jefferson and then hit by another oncoming train.
JOLIET, IL — A person was killed early Wednesday morning after being hit twice by two oncoming trains, Joliet fire officials said.
The person, who has not yet been publicly identified, was hit by an oncoming train at 3:40 a.m. near the overpass on Eastern Avenue near 90 E. Jefferson St., Joliet Fire Chief Jeff Carey confirmed on Wednesday.
The person was struck by a freight train and then hit by a second train that wasn’t able to stop in time, Carey said. The person was pronounced dead at the scene. Carey said Wednesday afternoon that Metra police are investigating the incident.

A Metra spokesperson did not immediately return a phone call seeking further details on the incident on Wednesday afternoon.
Metra officials on the Metra website and on social media that service was delayed on the Heritage Corridor and Rock Island lines. In a social media post, Metra said that the freight train has been cut and moved. Metra said that Train 918 has resumed and would make its normal stops in Joliet.
