Police Raid Manhattan Man’s Home, Seize Unspecified ‘Illegal Explosives’: Police

The police say they confiscated explosives but won't say what they are.

MANHATTAN, IL — Police say they seized “illegal explosives” from a Manhattan man’s house during a raid Monday — but won’t say what it was they took.

“It’s an ongoing investigation and no questions will be answered,” said Mattie Becker, an administrative assistant with the Manhattan Police Department.

The department issued a statement Tuesday that said its officers, along with the Will County Sheriff's Gang Suppression Unit, searched the Celtic Circle home of 49-year-old Timothy Thomsen.

“The Cook County Sheriff’s Police Bomb Squad was notified and responded to the Village of Manhattan to take custody of illegal explosives located inside the residence,” the statement said.

Thomsen was taken to the Will County jail and booked on charges of possession of a firearm without an owner’s identification card.
