Child Sexual Abuser Captured Hiding In Joliet Chicken Coop: Police

Joliet detectives interviewed Isaias Vargas, and he admitted to climbing in the window and looking for the victim, police said.

JOLIET — Joliet Police Department Investigations Sgt. Tizoc Landeros said 23-year-old Richards Street resident Isaias Vargas is now in the Will County Jail after being charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, two counts of home invasion, unlawful restraint, two counts of battery and one count of obstructing a police officer.

According to Landeros, at 7:37 a.m. Thursday, officers responded to the 900 block of Richards Street. A girl told them that a man was in her house trying to assault her. The juvenile female victim then called back, stating it was the neighbor.

She told the dispatcher that Vargas hurt her and tried to do things sexual in nature. The victim then stated that Vargas fled out the back window.

At that time, Landeros said officers saw Vargas coming from the victim’s house. Vargas then began to flee. Joliet Police officers gave chase, ultimately losing sight of Vargas due to the thick wooded area, Landeros said.

Officers were watching Vargas' house, also in the 900 block of Richards, and noticed a chicken coop. Vargas was found hiding on the second story of the chicken coop, police said.

According to Landeros, Joliet Police detectives interviewed Vargas, and he admitted to climbing in the window and looking for the victim. During the interview, Vargas told detectives that he tried to have sex with the victim on Thursday.

He also admitted to sexually assaulting the victim when she was younger, Landeros noted.

The Joliet Police Department thanked the Will County Sheriff’s Office, the Will County State’s Attorney Office, and the Will County Children Advocacy Center for their assistance in this case, Landeros said.
