Reckless DUI Driver Caused 2 Different Joliet Wrecks, 3 Women Taken To Hospital: Police

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department announced that 32-year-old resident Jose Sanchez was arrested over the weekend in connection with two different wrecks that happened on the east side, resulting in ambulance transports for a total of three women who were injured in both of the wrecks.

Joliet police said Sanchez was arrested on charges of DUI and reckless driving.

According to police agency spokesman Dwayne English, at 6:28 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the area of Collins Street and Benton Street for a crash. Police siad Sanchez was westbound on Benton Street approaching Collins Street in a Jeep Grand Cherokee and disobeyed the stop sign before striking a Chevrolet Suburban driven by a 32-year-old woman. The driver and her female passenger were taken by ambulance to Saint Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department with minor injuries.

English said officers later learned that Sanchez had been involved in additional crash prior to this one, near Cass Street and Henderson Street, in which he is accused of hitting the rear of a Ford Taurus driven by an 18-year-old woman who was westbound Cass Street stopped at the traffic light at Henderson Avenue.

Following this crash, police believe Sanchez drove away without providing aid or information and was subsequently involved in the crash at Collins Street and Benton Street a short time later, the arrest report noted.

The female driver of the Ford was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox with minor injuries.

While speaking to the officers at the scene of the crash at Collins Street and Benton Street, Sanchez showed signs of alcohol impairment, Joliet police noted. Sanchez refused to undergo field sobriety tests and was placed into custody without incident.
