Ejected Joliet Driver Dies, Semi-Tractor Trailer From Georgia Turns Into Route 53 Traffic: Police

JOLIET, IL — Late Friday night, the Joliet police issued a press release revealing that a 28-year-old Joliet man lost his life in Friday afternoon's wreck along South Chicago Street and Schweitzer Road involving a semi-tractor trailer.

The fatality was around 1 p.m. The Will County Coroner's Office of Laurie Summers has identified the victim as Adam Weathers. He was pronounced dead at 2:52 p.m.

According to the Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English's press release, a Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by a 54-year-old Cumming, Georgia man was exiting a private business in the 3400 block of South Chicago Street, facing eastbound.

The tractor-trailer initiated a left turn toward northbound South Chicago Street and collided with a Chevrolet Sonic driven by a 28-year-old Joliet man going southbound on South Chicago Street.

The driver of the Chevrolet was ejected in the collision. He was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department, where he died.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.

The roadway was closed for several hours while Joliet Police Department traffic investigators reconstructed the crash scene. Identification and manner of death of the driver of the Chevrolet will be determined by the Will County Coroner’s Office.
