Ruby Street Bridge Work Delayed to First of the Year
The bridge was supposed to open by Thanksgiving, but repairs will take longer than expected.
Back in September, Illinois Department of Transportation spokesman Mike Klassey said the Ruby Street bridge work would be complete in time for Thanksgiving.
"Once the painting is done, there is a lot of work to be done on the mechanical parts," he said at the time. "Our goal is to have all that work done by Thanksgiving, weather permitting."
On Tuesday, however, The Herald News was reporting that the bridge work would not be finished until after Jan. 1.

“They found a couple of unforeseen mechanical issues,” Greg Ruddy, public works administrator for the city of Joliet said in the Herald News article. “They needed to get some parts fabricated.”
In September, Klassey said that it is the mechanics of the bridge that make these kinds of projects take so long.
