Ruby Street Head-On Crash Sends Drunken Driver To Hospital: JPD

JOLIET — Last week, Joliet police arrested 42-year-old repeat offender David Hernandez, accused of crashing a car while under the influence. He was later released on a notice to appear for two counts of Aggravated DUI, DUI and DUI-BAC Over .08.

This marks the third time that Hernandez has been picked up on DUI charges.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 7:34 p.m. Monday, officers responded to Ruby Street and Elizabeth Street for a crash.

Hernandez was driving a Buick Century westbound on Ruby Street approaching Elizabeth Street when police say he veered into the eastbound lanes and struck a Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 23-year-old Joliet resident. Hernandez was taken to St Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department for minor injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the Chevrolet was uninjured.

While at the hospital, Hernandez indicated he had consumed alcohol prior to driving and his behavior was consistent with possible alcohol impairment. Hernandez performed sobriety tests and was placed into custody without incident at the hospital.

Hernandez had a revoked driver’s license and had two prior convictions for DUI.
