Run Over And Left For Dead: Pedestrian Killed On Joliet Street

The Joliet man was found dead on Jackson Street early Sunday morning.

JOLIET, IL — A Joliet man was hit by a car and left for dead on Jackson Street early Sunday morning.

Rigoberto Medina-Valdez, 30, was pronounced dead on Jackson near Abe Street shortly after 5 a.m.

Police did not immediately respond when asked for the circumstances surrounding Medina-Valdez’s death. An official said Medina-Valdez was killed by a hit-and-run driver.

Medina-Valdez was jailed the afternoon of Jan. 21 — just 10 days before his death. He had been wanted for failing to appear on a petition to revoke his probation, according to court records.

Medina was put on probation for an obstructing identification conviction. He had pleaded guilty to lying about his name to a police officer.

Medina-Valdez was released from the Will County jail the morning after he had been taken into custody.

The cause and manner of Medina-Valdez’s death will be determined upon the completion of an autopsy, toxicological testing, and the police investigation, according to Will County Coroner Patrick O’Neil’s office.
