School of Rock Too Loud For Plainfield Art Gallery: Lawsuit

The School of Rock needs to turn it down, according to a lawsuit

PLAINFIELD, IL — A Plainfield art gallery owner has a problem with the noise coming from the School of Rock next-door, according to a lawsuit filed in Will County court.

But it’s not just the tunes coming from the Lockport Street music school that are the problem, the suit said, it’s the allegedly ear-splitting air conditioners.

According to the lawsuit, which was filed by John Bates, the proprietor of the Lockport Street Gallery, the School of Rock’s noisy air conditioners are on his property, and he wants them gone.

Also, from April 28, 2014 to May 22 the next year, some unidentified person monitored the noise levels coming from the School of Rock on eight occasions, the lawsuit said. The levels allegedly came in at 65, 76, 73.8, 72, 70, 72,73 and 75 decibels.

For reference, according to supporting documents filed along with the lawsuit, freeway traffic is typically 70 decibels and a vacuum cleaner is 80 decibels.

The Lockport Street gallery specializes in Louis Icart etchings and Salvador Dali, its website says.
