JOLIET, IL — Joliet police have arrested 47-year-old Thurmond Lurry in connection with a late January incident that left a Joliet woman in the Silver Cross Hospital with a serious head injury. Lurry's arrest happened on Friday afternoon.

He's now being detained in the Will County Jail, where he's charged with domestic battery and aggravated domestic battery.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, the Joliet police were first notified of the incident back on Feb. 5.

According to English, the following events led to the capture of Lurry, marking his fourth consecutive year of incarceration in the Will County Jail:

  • At 4:19 p.m., Joliet police went to Silver Cross Hospital to meet with a victim of domestic battery. Officers learned that the 48-year-old woman had been hospitalized with a serious head injury on February 2.
  • "It was believed at the time that the injury was caused by an accident that was non-criminal in nature," English said of the woman's initial hospitalization.
  • Days later, the Joliet police were notified that the woman was really attacked by Lurry.
  • During January 28-29, Lurry and the victim were in an argument at their house in the 400 block of North Broadway Street. During the argument, Lurry struck the victim in the head with his hand. The victim later sought medical treatment for her injury on February 2.
  • On March 20, Joliet police detectives obtained an arrest warrant and around 3:40 p.m. on Friday, Joliet police found Lurry at his residence in the 400 block of North Broadway and placed him into custody without incident.

In 2022, Lurry was kept inside the Will County Jail for seven months, a crime that was covered by Joliet Patch.
