Shot Fired During Neighbor Dispute On Joliet's West Side, 1 Arrest Made: Police

JOLIET, IL — Joliet police issued a shelter-in-place order Friday afternoon after a shooting incident in the 900 block of Ann Street, near Black Road. By 3 p.m., the shelter-in-place order had been lifted for nearby residents, police said.

Joliet police spokesman Tizoc Landeros said a 25-year-old man from Joliet was arrested and charges are pending.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., Joliet officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Ann Street for a neighbor discharging a gun into the air. Upon arrival, the officers learned the incident stemmed from a neighbor dispute in which the suspect went outside and fired one round into the air.

No one was injured by the gunfire, and it is unknown at this time if any property damage occurred.

As a precaution, a reverse 9-1-1 notification was sent to residents in the area, advising them to shelter in place. Nearby schools were also asked to delay dismissal to reduce pedestrian traffic in the vicinity.

Officers made contact with the suspect and took him into custody without incident, police said.

Due to the nature of the call, the Joliet Special Operations Squad (S.O.S.) responded to secure the scene. The house was searched to ensure no one inside was armed or injured; no occupants were found, police said. The scene was then released back to responding officers and detectives.

The suspect was taken to the Joliet Police Investigations Division for questioning. The investigation is active and in its early stages, police said.
