Shooting In Larkin Ave. Hotel, Joliet Police Arrest Gunman: English

JOLIET — The Joliet Police Department announced that Monday's early morning shooting inside the Main Stay Suites hotel at 135 S. Larkin Ave. has been cleared thanks to the arrest of 23-year-old resident Kywaun Beatty.

Beatty was brought to the Will County Jail, where he's now being held on a charge of aggravated discharge of a gun.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said that at 1:38 a.m., officers responded to the MainStay Suites — previously known as the Quality Inn & Suites —at 135 South Larkin for a report of someone firing a gun inside the hotel. Officers learned that Beatty had fired two rounds into the door of a guest room that was occupied by his 23-year-old ex-girlfriend and her 26-year-old sister, after banging on the room’s door.

No injuries were reported, and Officers recovered two spent shell casings from the hallway outside the room.

A description of Beatty was broadcast to other officers in the area. A short time later, Joliet police found Beatty near McDonough Street and Notre Dame Avenue, and he was placed into custody without incident. Officers say they recovered a loaded handgun following a search of Beatty.

Beatty comes from the 1700 block of Oneida Street.
