Shouting Incident At Dollar General Leads To Assault Arrest: JPD
Mark Surges, age 54, of Joliet was arrested and released by Joliet police on charges of assault.

JOLIET — A 54-year-old Joliet citizen named Mark Surges was hauled away in handcuffs by Joliet police officers who were called to the Dollar General store at 2410 Essington Road. Because of the incident, Surges was charged with assault.
The Joliet police let him go home after he was given his notice to appear in court, under the SAFE-T-Act.

On June 3, at 11:50 a.m., officers responded to the Dollar General on Essington Road for a disturbance.
Officers learned that while Surges was in the store parking lot, he approached another man who was a Dollar General customer and began shouting at him about drugs.

It is believed that Surges then aggressively approached the victim as if to fight him. The victim then sprayed Surges with pepper spray. Surges was on scene and was placed into custody without incident.
