Stomach-Stabbing Stemmed From Road Rage Ruckus: Cops

Police remain mystified over how the reported road rage confrontation actually started.

A Calumet City man jailed last week in connection with an April stabbing was arrested for plunging a foot-long knife into the belly of a motorist who had pulled over on Cottage Grove Avenue, police said.

Calvin McIntosh, 46, remains in custody at the Will County jail on two counts of aggravated battery. His bond was previously set at $50,000.

Back in April, McIntosh got into a traffic altercation with a 26-year-old from Dyer, Indiana, police said.

The Indiana man had been heading south on Route 394 when he stopped for a traffic light on Exchange Street.

McIntosh then allegedly tailgated the younger man for a couple miles until they got to Cottage Grove Avenue, where they both got out of their vehicles.

The two men argued and McIntosh produced a foot-long knife, police said, then stabbed the Indiana man in the right side of his stomach.

The wounded man reportedly called the cops but turned down medical attention after they arrived. He later drove himself to St. Mary’s Hospital in Crete, police said.

Detectives investigated the case and obtained a warrant for McIntosh’s arrest, but are still stumped as to what sparked the animosity between the two men.

“It was unclear why the road rage altercation began in the first place,” police said.

McIntosh was scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
