The race will take place rain or shine with half the proceeds from the event going to National Honor Society students at Joliet Central.

JOLIET, IL — The second annual Stone & Steel Spooky 5K will be run rain or shine on Sunday, offering area runners and walkers the chance to get in a seasonal race before the weather turns too cold.

The 5K is hosted by the Joliet City Center Partnership and will begin at 8 p.m. on Sunday in downtown Joliet. Registration will continue through the morning of the race, organizers here, and may be completed by clicking here.

Organizers said that the event will go on as scheduled regardless of weather conditions unless thunder or lightning should force the race to be canceled. Sunday's weather forecast calls for a 40 percent chance of rain in the morning with temperatures in the mid-50s.

Participants can enter the Halloween costume contest to win fun prizes. Half of the proceeds will be donated to Joliet Central High School's chapter of the National Honor Society which recognizes students who excel in the four pillars of NHS: leadership, scholarship, service, and character, organizers said.

All NHS students have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Selected members participate in a variety of service projects and leadership events.

“We are excited to highlight Downtown Joliet and the Iron Works site again this year,” said Priscilla Cordero, executive director of the City Center Partnership. “This is a fun and unique way to celebrate the Halloween season while supporting Joliet Central High School.”
