JOLIET, IL — It’s only Monday and the Will County State’s Attorney has already petitioned to take plenty of stuff from people.
As you probably know, you don’t have to be found guilty for prosecutors to try to take your things away.
So let’s take a look at what they petitioned to get their hands on Monday:

Charles B. Pelkie, the spokesman for the state's attorney's office, said the forfeiture proceedings are prompted by criminal cases.
"All these cases have underlying criminal offenses attached to them," he said. "The criminal case proceeds on a separate track. The state's attorney's office, under the law, can move ahead with forfeiture proceedings for property that was used in the commission of the underlying offense.

"We have to take all of these cases before a judge and the judge has to rule on them, so there is due process involved in these cases," Pelkie said.
