Teen Drove 60-70 mph in 35 mph Zone Before Crash That Killed Elderly Man: Cops

The teen crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed into the 82-year-old man's car, police said.

CREST HILL, IL — A Joliet teen was driving twice the speed limit when he crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed into an elderly man’s car, killing him, police said.

Dwayne Griffin, 19, was driving 60 or 70 mph when he lost control of his Nissan Altima on the Larkin Avenue curve near Knapp Drive Tuesday night, according to two witnesses listed in a police report.

Griffin crashed head-on into a Lexus ES 330 driven by 82-year-old Stewart McCutcheon, police said.

McCutcheon, a Crest Hill resident, was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital and died in the emergency room. His passenger, 76-year-old Taisy McCutcheon, was injured and also taken to Adventist Bolingbrook.

Griffin was ejected from his vehicle. He was also injured, according to a crash report.
