JOLIET — The Joliet Police Department has received permission from Will County Judge Art Smigielski to arrest 19-year-old Plainfield area resident Yussef Sami Zahran in connection with two different crimes from April. In one of the criminal complaints, Zahran is accused of operating a motor vehicle on Monday in a manner that placed Joliet Police officer Jorge Trujillo in reasonable apprehension of being struck by the vehicle.

The complaint indicated that Zahran "without lawful authority drove his vehicle at Jorge Trujillo."

Because of Monday's incident, Zahran has a warrant out for his arrest on charges of aggravated assault, fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer and obstructing a peace officer.

The complaint indicates the Plainfield area teenager refused to exit his vehicle in response to a lawful command, knowing Officer Trujillo to be a peace officer in the execution of his official duties.

As for the fleeing charge, Zahran was driving a 2016 Audi A6 along Caton Farm Road and he refused to bring his vehicle to a stop, driving away from the Joliet police officer trying to make the traffic stop, court records show.

A separate charge of criminal damage to property was filed against Zahran this week as well, and that stems from an incident on April 20. Zahran damaged a gambling machine of Accel Entertainment and the damage to the property exceeded $500 but $10,000, court documents show.
