JOLIET, IL — For the third time this month, 35-year-old Joliet resident Armondo Arrendondo finds himself lodged in the Will County Jail. His latest arrest by the Joliet police happened Tuesday resulting in charges of theft over $500, criminal trespass, aggravated assault to a police officer, violation of court order and obstructing justice.

According to Joliet police spokesman Tizoc Landeros: at about 8:30 a.m., the officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Oak Leaf Court for a stolen bicycle. They met with the victim, who reported witnessing a Hispanic male, later identified as Arrendondo, wearing an ankle monitor, steal his bicycle. The victim confronted the thief, prompting him to abandon the bicycle and flee the area.

Approximately 20 minutes later, Arrendondo returned and tried to steal the bicycle once more, Landeros noted. The victim confronted him again, at which point Arrendondo claimed that the bicycle belonged to him and expressed a desire to borrow it.

Ultimately, Arrendondo left the area once again without the bicycle.

Later, the victim checked for his bicycle and realized it had been stolen. The officers searched the area for Arrendondo; however, they were unable to locate him.

At approximately 11:30 a.m, officers were dispatched back to the 500 block of Oak Leaf Court. They were informed that staff members were restraining Arrendondo. Upon their arrival, the officers took Arrendondo into custody and placed him in a squad car for transport. He began kicking the squad car's door window and headbutting the rear compartment barrier, Landeros pointed out.

"While in the Joliet Police booking area, Arrendondo removed his shoes and threw them at the officers, but he did not succeed in hitting them. He then began to spit at the officers; however, none of the officers were struck by saliva," Landeros announced.

Arrendondo refused to be processed and was subsequently transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility without any incidents.

Arrendondo remained in the Will County Jail as of Friday. He was also in the jail June 18-20 and June 16-17.
