Tree City — Joliet Wins Prestigious Award For 26th Straight Year

Joliet also won its seventh "Growth Award."

JOLIET, IL — The City of Joliet was named a “Tree City USA” for the 26th consecutive year.

The National Arbor Day Foundation recognized Joliet for the prestigious honor.

Joliet also won its seventh “Growth Award” for extending a seven year tree-growing contract to 10 years. The city was also honored for its work with Canadian National through a grant program to plant trees in the City.

On Arbor Day, April 28, the city will hold a celebration at 9 a.m. at Pershing Elementary School, 251 N. Midland Ave. Students will participate in a tree planting ceremony.

Winners of the “Trees Are Terrific” Arbor Day Poster Contest from Pershing School are:

  • Honorable Mention: Allison Costa

Winning posters will be on display at Joliet’s City Hall from April 18 through Arbor Day.
