Troy Middle School Students Attend 'Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day'
The event was hosted by Argonne National Laboratory.

From Troy Community Consolidated School District 30-C:
Three Troy Middle School eighth-graders participated in this year’s “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day” at Argonne National Laboratory. Iris Cobb, Veronica Guzman and Layne Barry spent the day touring Argonne’s cutting-edge research facilities, engaging in hands-on engineering experiments and competing in a team challenge.
They also heard motivational presentations by women engineers and learned about STEM careers from world-class scientists and engineers.

The students were nominated for the event by their District 30-C Troy Middle School science teachers Dr. Barbara Will-Henn, Colleen Fals and Jeremy Huff.
“I think activities like Introduce A Girl to Engineering are important for our students because the girls not only get exposure to the different things that engineers do in their day to day work life, but they also make contact with "real" scientists,” Will-Henn said. “They also see a huge group of other really motivated girls that are interested in some of the same things they are, such as math, science and building things, which may not happen at school every day.”
