Victim Stabbed On Collins Street: Joliet Police Arrest Their Prime Suspect

Joliet police say their suspect was located at a house in the 400 block of Chase Avenue.

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department announced the arrest of 36-year-old east side resident Luis Martinez-Torres in connection with an overnight stabbing on the city's northeast side.

Martinez is now being kept in the Will County Jail facing charges of aggravated battery, obstructing a peace officer and resisting a peace officer.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said that at 1:15 a.m. Sunday, the officers responded to the area of Collins Street and Cleveland Avenue for a man who was stabbed. At the scene, officers located the 43-year-old victim. He suffered a non-life-threatening stab wound to the lower back.

The victim was transported to Silver Cross Hospital by the Joliet Fire Department.

English said the officers identified Martinez-Torres as their prime suspect and learned that he was at his house in the 400 block of Chase Avenue. However, he refused repeated commands to stand and exit the residence, so officers removed him from the home as he continued to resist, English noted.

Martinez-Torres was eventually secured and was transported to the Joliet Police Department, where he was processed and then transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
