Video: Drew Peterson Trial Day 1 - Drew Arrives Under Guard, Randolph County State's Attorney Breaks Case Down

The one common theme: "Mr. Peterson hated Mr. Glasgow."

CHESTER, IL — The Drew Peterson show debuted in Downstate Illinois, and opening day didn’t quite draw the same audience as it did during its run in Joliet.

Peterson arrived under guard and in a convoy of vehicles Monday morning. Through the course of the day, five witnesses took the stand, including Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow and the convict who claims Peterson tried to pay him to find Glasgow’s killer.

That convict, Antonio “Beast” Smith, supposedly wore a wire and recorded Peterson’s murderous overtures. The jury has yet to hear these recordings.

At the end of the trial’s first day, Randolph County State’s Attorney Jeremy Walker summed up the basis of the prosecution’s case: ““Mr. Peterson hated Mr. Glasgow.”

“This isn’t just something that happened overnight,” Walker said.

“The theme was the anger, the hatred, the animosity,” he said. “We would like for (the jury) to remember that during the course of the trial as they’re hearing this evidence because it all kind of links together.”

Not only does it all link together, Walker said, but there is “one common theme” and “that is Mr. Peterson hated Mr. Glasgow.”
