Joliet Man Arrested For 4th Time By Joliet Police Since June
The victim ran to a front door for help. Douglas Yates then pushed the victim to the ground and got on top of her, Joliet police said.

JOLIET, IL — Will County Judge Ben Braun has ordered 43-year-old Joliet citizen Douglas Yates to remain in the Will County Jail for an indefinite period under the SAFE-T-Act after Joliet police arrested Yates for his fourth violent crime since last June, according to court files.
This time around, Yates is charged with three counts of aggravated battery at a public place and three counts of domestic battery.
According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, Joliet police were sent to a house on Stryker Avenue for a disturbance at 4:23 a.m.

Officers determined that while Yates and a woman walked in the area during the middle of the night, Yates grew angry and began punching the victim multiple times in the face and head, English said.
The victim ran to a front door of a nearby house for help. Police believe Yates then pushed the victim to the ground and got on top of her. Two residents left their home and intervened, tackling Yates to the ground, and Yates hit both residents as well, according to police.

When Joliet police tried to arrest Yates, they said he attempted to pull away and kick at them.

Upon being processed by Joliet police officers at the downtown station, Yates was taken to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department for treatment of injuries he suffered during the original incident.
Yates was released from the hospital a short time later and taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. He will now remain in the jail as part of the SAFE-T-Act, as a result of Will County Judge Ben Braun's decision.
According to court records, Joliet police saw blood coming from the mouth of Yates' initial victim and the woman signed a domestic violence complaint for Joliet police as part of their investigation. She indicated Yates has physically abused her three times in the past, and that she did not cooperate with Joliet police in the past because she feared Yates would hurt her even more.
"The defendant attacked (the victim) less than 24 hours after he was released on electronic monitoring," Will County's prosecutors informed the judge. "The defendant has shown a total disregard for the orders of a judge and the rules of electronic monitoring."
